Our current exhibition presents Cho Chang-hwan’s SOOM (Breath) series, on view now through 31 October 2026.
A graduate of the Department of Western Painting at Hongik University (b. 1964, Boeun), Cho builds each canvas from roughly ten layers of paint applied with single-hair brushes, using a single Lespedeza stalk to lay down stroke after stroke. He describes the work as the “spatialization of time” — breathing made visible — connecting respiration to the East Asian concept of Ki (life force). Up close the delicate lines seem alive; from a distance the surface settles into a calm, quiet breath.

이번 전시는 조창환 작가의 숨(SOOM) 연작을 2026년 10월 31일까지 선보입니다.
홍익대학교 서양화과를 나온 조창환(1964년 보은 출생)은 싸리나무 한 가닥을 붓 삼아, 캔버스에 물감을 한 올씩 열 겹 가까이 쌓아 올립니다. 그는 이 과정을 “시간의 공간화”라 부르며, 호흡을 동양 철학의 ‘기(氣)’와 잇습니다. 가까이서 보면 가느다란 선이 살아 움직이고, 멀찍이 물러서면 화면 전체가 잔잔한 숨결로 다가옵니다.
